SmartPill
Overview
SmartPill is an ingestible capsule that measures pressure, pH and temperature as it travels through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to assess GI motility. This study will help to explain symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, and constipation. This monitoring test can evaluate motility (the rate of movement of food though your system) after you swallow a small pill and wear a recorder on a belt or waistband over a 5 day period. The recorder will be returned so data can be analyzed by your GI professional and receive an evaluation and set a course of treatment. This capsule is typically passed within a few days through your stool. You may not notice that is has passed. This can be flushed away. This test is usually done in the clinic and you may drive yourself as sedation in not required.
