Inflammation means “set afire.” Sometimes you notice the symptoms and sometimes there are no signs at all. Please have regular checkups including your colonoscopy.
Chronic inflammation is linked to ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, IBD Inflammatory bowel disease.
Some symptoms are abdominal pain, cramping, and diarrhea. This is because your body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the healthy bacteria in you and causes inflammation.
What you eat matters. Have plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, fish and certain spices (ginger root, cinnamon, clove, and turmeric).
Don’t forget the prebiotics. Limit saturated fats found in meats, dairy products, processed and fast foods.
- Exercise on a regular basis and keep a healthy weight.
- Get some sleep.
- Keep trying to kick the habit – smoking.
- Be careful of ibuprofen and naproxen. Overuse can cause stomach problems, like ulcers or bleeding.
- Ask your doctor to check your vitamin D.
