“I just wanted to take a minute to let you know how thankful we are for your physicians and staff! We are always able to get our "STAT" patients seen within the same day and prompt appointments for our patients with less urgent issues. We have also noticed that we receive follow up correspondence from your office the same day as the appointment!! This is unheard of and a huge plus for our staff! This means they are able to spend less time on the phone calling for follow up reports and more time focusing on patient care. The collaborative effort between our clinics has proven to be a huge satisfier and produced positive outcomes for our patients!!”

“Dr. Abshire is a lifesaver! He’s my guardian angel. He is very thorough. If he doesn’t know something, he is not afraid to tell you. Then he will research it till he does. I’ve been cancer free for 18 years because of Dr. Abshire. I sure do hope he out lives me because I know I can trust him with my life.”

“Dr. Trawick is awesome. He gives me the comfort that he really understands me. As a matter of fact, his nurse just called me to check on me and I don’t go back for another 3 weeks. That says a lot about the man and the staff at The Gastro Clinic.
You may use my name. I’d be proud.”

“I am so grateful to Dr. Abshire and Mrs. Miedecke to saving my life! The staff at The Gastro Clinic is always so kind and courteous!!! This clinic is by far the BEST!!! I would highly recommend this gastro clinic to anyone!!
May God Bless All Of You For Making Sure All Of Your Patients Have The Best Care Possible!!”

“I have been Dr. Abshire’s patient for about 13 years. I had asked around to healthcare professionals who was the best GI in our area, and many of them mentioned Dr. Abshire’s name. I decided to make an appointment to see him. And the rest, as they say is “history.” From that point on I have always felt that Dr. Abshire was always working to keep me well! My disease is complicated and difficult to deal with at times. Dr. Abshire and his staff are always working to get the answers needed to keep me doing well. This kind of care cannot be found and attained easily, except here at Gastro Clinic. It speaks volumes in a world where doctors have less and less time to spend with patients, and these same doctors have to “fight“ with our insurance companies to get them to just “pay their portion or authorize the treatment that is vital to get me well.” So, I am so grateful to Dr. Abshire especially when I came to him I still did not know lots about my disease, what triggered a flare-up, etc. He and his staff helped with all of these issues for me. They answered my questions, they have always been thorough, and a pleasure to work with. I am so grateful and appreciative. Thank you Dr. Abshire.”

“I recently sought the medical expertise of Sylvia Oats, nurse practitioner for Dr. Stephen Abshire for symptoms I was experiencing. Sylvia has a very warm and welcoming personality and a wonderful bedside manner. She was extremely professional and attentive, while discussing all of the details of my medical history, symptoms and concerns. After a thorough examination, she authorized the prescriptions needed at the time and ordered the necessary tests promptly. I was extremely impressed with her medical expertise and her attention to every detail. She is a great diagnostician herself!
I know that anyone who encountered medical health care from Sylvia Oats would readily share the same sentiments.”

“I’ve been seeing Dr. Arterburn for roughly 12 years since being diagnosed with Crohn’s. His knowledge and bedside manners are second to none. Dr. Arterburn and staff respond to my questions and concerns with sincerity as if I was family. I would never consider changing gastroenterologist as long as Dr. Arterburn, staff, and The Gastro Clinic of Acadiana are around.”

“In the summer of 2008, I brought my husband to the ER because of some unusual rectal bleeding that came on suddenly and wouldn’t stop. The doctor wasn’t concerned enough to admit him but encouraged us to get a colonoscopy within a week or two following. This was no easy task. My husband was only 33 at the time. I called every doctor in Lafayette and no one wanted to see him because of his age. This was very frustrating. Finally I was able to speak with someone at Dr. Abshire’s office. She calmed me down and assured me that he would be seen. Within a week he had his colonoscopy scheduled. This is when we learned he had colon cancer. I was in complete shock. Dr. Abshire saved his life. Later we learned it was stage 3. If we would have waited my husband would not be here today. Cancer does NOT age discriminate. Please get screened before it’s too late.”

“I met Dr. Karr when my mother had her colonoscopy. I was impressed how he related to us with face to face explanation of what was to happen. One week later, I started to have some GI issues. I accompanied my mother for her follow up visit with Dr. Karr. I spoke with him about my issues and decided to see my internist first. My internist ran some tests and they all came back fine. I remembered my discussions with Dr. Karr and requested a colonoscopy. Much to my surprise he came to me with the diagnosis of colon cancer. Dr. Karr was upfront, explained everything to me that I asked about. He sent me to a surgeon. That surgeon wanted me to wait another 2 weeks. Dr. Karr intervened and I had my surgery within 2 days. Now I am cancer free. Had it not been for Dr. Karr with his immediate response, the cancer would not have been found in its early stage. I am so grateful to him for REALLY listening to me and taking charge.”

“I want to thank you Dr. Trawick! I was so grateful for choosing you. I watched your video and you truly do what you claim to do. I was really worried before going. You asked all the right questions. Things I have been having trouble with for a long time. Just made my jaw drop when you asked. I have been so exhausted, even with getting a good amount of sleep, I would nod off at work. I have been telling my doctor At UMC. Now that I have insurance, it is like, why am I going there. I just want to lose weight and feel better. Stretching my esophagus has helped tremendously. When you go to a doctor that treats you like a number, it makes it hard to ask or tell them all the things that need to be said. Having this patient portal is one of the best ways of communicating. It is stressful waiting for a call back or have concerns about things that you are afraid to ask in person. Medication is helping. Slowly but surely. Thank you and your staff for truly easing the stress. Just by my blood pressure, it tells me a lot. It is truly hard to find a doctor that is really about healing. I know that is you! Thank you from the bottom of my Heart!!! God Bless!!!”

“My daughter has been seeing Dr. Arterburn for several years. She has Crohn’s Disease and has tried numerous medications with little relief. Then a new drug came out in a trial. Dr. Arterburn researched it and got her in the trials, so far, so good. We are very grateful that this new drug is working.”

- Mrs. L

“My Nurse Practitioner at Dr. Abshire’s office, Cindy Landry, is the best, smartest, most well informed practitioner always with a smile on her face. She makes my day.”

“My family is so grateful to Dr. Abshire and Dr. Karr!  We believe that they saved my father’s life. My father had been bleeding internally for several weeks.  We saw several gastro doctors and had several colonoscopies. Neither of these doctors could find anything wrong with him except possibly bleeding from diverticulitis. We at that point changed to Dr. Abshire’s group at which point a third colonoscopy was done only to find out that my father had colon cancer (this was discovered only 2 weeks after the 2nd colonoscopy). Thank God for Dr. Abshire and Dr. Karr doing a thorough colonoscopy test to discover this mass in his colon.  My father has since had his surgery to remove the mass and is on his road to recovery! Needless to say the Gastroenterology Clinic of Acadiana is the leader in their field in Acadiana and would recommend the group to anyone!”

“Nexium, Omeprazole, Aciphex, Zegerid - I tried them all. For the last 15 years of my life, I was dependent on some sort of “stomach medicine” for my frequent heartburn. However, over the previous 6 months, the symptoms had gotten much worse.

As a Nurse Practitioner, I knew that being on such medications as I was on for this long was not good. In addition, I knew what I would have done for my patients had they been in the same situation as me; I would have sent them to a Gastroenterologist. Contrary to my medical practice, I tried to remedy my problems on my own. My changed eating habits, weight loss, sleeping on with the head of the bed elevated, avoiding triggers like chocolate, alcohol, and offending foods were all done in vain, as my “frequent heartburn” slowly turned into a major problem. I developed hoarseness, chronic coughing, and severe night symptoms - mainly reflux from my stomach into my mouth. After some convincing from my wife and some trusted friends in my local medical community, I began searching for a Gastroenterologist to refer myself to. After reading about the Gastro Clinic and the Lafayette General Endoscopy Center, I decided that this was the right choice. After further research, I found that all of the providers at the Gastro Clinic were exceptional, and I chose Dr. Karr as my provider.

My first visit at the Clinic was great. Dr. Karr’s nurse, Leslie, was so personable and friendly. Dr. Karr was great as well. He didn’t use medical jargon, but rather spoke to me as a person and not a patient - he never looked at the computer while I was in the room! More importantly to me, he didn’t assume that I knew anything at all about my condition just because I was a provider. He educated me and spent time with me to talk about options. One of the options that he thought would be the best for me was STRETTA. He provided me with educational material and encouraged me to read about it and study it. I’m so glad I did!

My STRETTA was done on 12/31/2015. The best thing about the procedure aside from the outcome was the convenience of the center. I literally walked in, sat down for a few moments, was escorted to my bed, and prepared for the procedure. The staff was wonderful, the view from the room through the large window was a relaxing way to wait for anesthesia, and I didn’t have to change into a hospital gown or anything - I even kept my shoes on! I experienced only a little bit of discomfort after the procedure for maybe 24 hours - mainly if I drank or ate too quickly. I followed the instructions regarding my use of my PPI until my follow up with Dr. Karr. For the first time in 15 years, I am not relying on Omeprazole or Nexium or the like. I am in the process of weaning off of these medications and using OTC medications to help do this. I hope that in the next few months, I’ll be off of all stomach medications.

It’s so nice to lie down at night and not worry that I’ll wake up with reflux. I’m very thankful for the care given by Dr. Karr and his team. I would recommend the Gastro Clinic and Dr. Karr to anyone; in fact, I have recommended him to a few of my own patients!”
