“In the summer of 2008, I brought my husband to the ER because of some unusual rectal bleeding that came on suddenly and wouldn’t stop. The doctor wasn’t concerned enough to admit him but encouraged us to get a colonoscopy within a week or two following. I called every doctor in Lafayette and no one wanted to see him because of his age—he was only 33 at the time. Finally, I was able to speak with someone at Dr. Abshire’s office. We saw several gastro doctors and had several colonoscopies. Neither of these doctors could find anything wrong with him except possible bleeding from diverticulitis.
